BLRT Grupp built passenger ferry blocks for the first time in Tallinn

Marketex Marine, a subsidiary of BLRT Group, completed the construction of the blocks for the new passenger ferry and already sent them to its customer, the Finnish company Rauma Marine Constructions.

"If until now we built different types of vessels and blocks for ferry and excursion liners in Lithuania at our KlaipÄ—da shipyard, now they were produced for the first time in Tallinn. The construction and painting of the blocks went on non-stop for 12 weeks in a row, regardless of the weather conditions, both in the workshop and in the new painting chamber, which are capable of accommodating large structures up to 30 meters high," explained Fyodor Kvič, the chairman of the board of Marketex Marine.

After the construction and painting work was completed, the blocks were lifted by a crane onto a special barge and sent to the customer to start assembling the ferry.

The 212-meter cruise ship will operate between Australia and the island of Tasmania. When designing the ferry, the fact that it will travel along a complicated shipping route through the Bass Strait, which at one time was called "passing through the eye of the needle", was especially taken into account. The ferry will be equipped with a hybrid engine that can also run on liquefied natural gas (LNG). The new ship can accommodate up to 1,800 passengers, and it will serve up to 450,000 passengers a year.
